The Jimmy Choo Zena Platforms are an urban safari

I usually pay more attention to Jimmy Choo’s handbags than I do to the company’s shoes, but if they keep making footwear as unique and personality-filled as the Jimmy Choo Zena Platforms, I might have to refocus my sartorial efforts. The big, thick wooden platform and heel set this shoe head and shoulders above the average Choo offering.

What really puts the entire design over the top, however, is how the wood coordinates with the color and pattern of the stamped snakeskin straps. It’s no secret that these shoes are intended to make us think of sun, sand humidity and palm trees, and right about now, there’s nowhere else I want my mind to be.

It’s hard to tell from this angle, but the platform is easily the most interesting part of this shoe. The first layer may look white, but it’s actual clear plastic, which fits perfectly with current trends. Clear plastic also lines the inside of the heel and gives the shoe a great deal of dimension. Somehow, the designers at Choo managed to make all of these different materials come together cohesively, which is a not a small accomplishment.
