I have lots of crackpot theories about fashion and how it should make people feel or act when it’s done correctly, but one of the highest compliments I can pay to a piece or a collection is to say that it made me smile. That was the immediate reaction I had to Sergio Rossi Fall 2011 – these are very "special” shoes for very particular occasions, and they take flights of fancy to a whole new level. Literally. Some of them have wings.

Those of you who don’t embrace kitsch may have a slightly differing opinion of this group of shoes, but if I’m going to shell out my hard-earned dollars for footwear, it better have the power to put me in a better mood. With vertiginous sparkly butterfly cuffs and wired, gravity-defying ruffles, these designs do exactly that. Just as they should.
